‘I gave you 5 years’ and ‘Gur ka gobar’: PM Modi’s jibes at Opposition & Adhir Chowdhury

Prime Minister also took a jibe at Leader of the Opposition in House Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and expressed empathy with the ‘sidelined’ Congress leader.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his reply to the No-Confidence Motion in Lok Sabha on Thursday, took swipe at the Opposition bloc I.N.D.I.A and also Leader of Opposition in the House, Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury.
Starting off his speech on the No-Trust vote, PM Modi ridiculed the Opposition for ‘poor preparation’ despite being given five years to brace up for the challenge.

PM Modi said that Opposition had set the fielding but it was the ruling side which was hitting boundaries & centuries.

“Fielding was set by the opposition, but fours and sixes were being hit from this side. We kept scoring centuries while they continued with NO balls. I gave you five years to come back to power. Why didn’t you prepare?”, PM Modi said ridiculing the I.N.D.I.A alliance.

PM Modi also said that No-confidence Motion brought by Opposition has turned out to auspicious for us and hopefully this would happen again in 2024 or 2028.

“Opposition’s No Confidence has always been lucky for us. Today, I can see that you (Opposition) have decided that NDA and BJP will come back in 2024 elections with a grand victory, breaking all previous records, with the blessings of the people,” PM Modi said.

PM Modi said that in 2018 also, it was not a floor test for NDA but a test for the Opposition.

‘Gur Gobar’ dig at Cong’s Adhir Chowdhury

Prime Minister also took a jibe at Leader of the Opposition in House Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury and expressed empathy with the ‘sidelined’ Congress leader.

He said that Congress snubbed its own leader while putting the Motion of No-Confidence on floor of the House, as the party opted for Gaurav Gogoi and not Adhir Chowdhury to open the debate.

PM Modi also thanked Home Minister Amit Shah & Speaker Om Birla for their support in enlisting Adhir as one of the speakers on No-Trust vote, as he was missed out by his own party and this would set a wrong precedent.

“Sharad Pawar led the 1999 no-confidence motion. Sonia Gandhi in 2003. But this time, look at what happened to Adhir Chowdhury? His party didn’t let him speak,” said PM Modi.

As PM Modi said, ‘Gud ka gobar kaise karna hai, usme ye mahir hain’, the house broke into laughter.

In further swipe, PM Modi said, “I don’t know what’s your compulsion. Why was Adhir Chowdhury sidelined? Maybe, a call came from Kolkata. We are completely sympathetic to Adhir Chowdhury.”

PM’s barb about “call from Bengal” was apparently in reference to Bengal Chief Minister and TMC chief Mamata Banerjee.
