IAF’s MiG-21 crashes near Punjab’s Moga Pilot killed; Court of Inquiry ordered

IAF’s MiG-21 crashes: The pilot, Squadron Leader Abhinav Choudhary, of the IAF aircraft was killed in the crash, the air force said.

Moga (Punjab): An Indian Air Force MiG-21 fighter aircraft crashed near Punjab’s Moga late on Thursday night.

According to IAF officials, the aircraft was on a routine training sortie when the accident happened.

It is also said that the pilot, Sqn Ldr Abhinav Choudhary, sustained fatal injuries.

“A Court of Inquiry (CoI) has been ordered to investigate the cause of the incident,” officials said.

The old Soviet-origin MiG-21s, the first truly supersonic fighters to be inducted by the IAF in 1963, in particular, have had a high crash rate over the years and should have been retired long ago.

Further details into the matter are awaited.
