New Delhi: After Congress leader Kamal Nath’s “item” remark, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan has written a letter to Congress president Sonia Gandhi to remove him from all party posts & strongly condemn his statement.
“Immediately remove him from all party posts & strongly condemn his statement. If you fail to react, I’ll be compelled to believe that you support it,” it states.
MP CM SS Chouhan in a letter to Sonia Gandhi said, a leader of your party, a former CM has made such a comment. Is it okay? Do poor women have no respect? Madam, if you think the remark was wrong, what action will you take? I’m writing to you, you make a decision.
He further said, “I expected a clarification, but the statement is being shamelessly justified. You can abuse me, call me names, but such a comment about a woman is against every daughter & mother. Women have deen disrespected during Navratri. He (Kamal Nath) crossed limits of shamelessness.”
Shivraj Singh Chauhan’s Silent Protest
Earlier in the day he also observed a two-hour ‘silent protest’ in Bhopal, against former CM & Congress leader Kamal Nath’s remarks. Other ministers of the state & leaders of the party were also present.
pic.twitter.com/5f9xniPHFi

“It is an insult to not only Imarti Devi but also to Madhya Pradesh’s daughters and sisters. Kamal Nath is using objectionable words for a daughter who served Congress for so long. It is a country where Mahabharat took place when Draupadi was disrespected. People won’t tolerate it. Shame on him,” Chouhan told ANI.
“I am distressed by the fact that the former Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh has used derogatory words for our present minister who served Congress for years, who rose from labourer to ministerial position,” he added.
pic.twitter.com/y0XI3H4xUE

Here is what Kamal Nath said
On Sunday (October 18), Former MP CM Kamal Nath sparked a controversy after he referred BJP leader Imarti Devi as an “item”
“Suresh Raje ji hamare ummeedvar hai…yeh uske jaise nah hai…kya hai uska naam … main kya uska naam lun? …apko toh mujhe pehle savdhan karna chahiye tha … yeh kya item hai… (Our candidate is not like her… what’s her name? You know her better and should have warned me earlier… What an item!), Kamal Nath said in Hindi while the crowd called out Imarti Devi’s name.
