In Delhi, If you spit or urinate at public places, be ready to pay Rs 1,000/- fine

NDMC has planned to enforce the guidelines of stiff penalties with the help of checking squads. Dedicated checking squads will be commissioned on the lines of pollution control teams.

New Delhi: The New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) has made spitting and urinating in public, a punishable offence under the Disaster Management Act.

“There shall not be any spitting/urinating in public places. Persons responsible for any violation of the aforesaid directive shall be punished with a fine of Rs. 1000,” the New Delhi Municipal Council said today. A penalty of Rs 1,000 will be levied on those who flout these rules.

According to a TOI report, the civic bodies have planned to enforce the guidelines of stiff penalties with the help of checking squads. Dedicated checking squads will be commissioned on the lines of pollution control teams and they will inspect open places and markets after the lockdown too.

This assumes significance in light of the fact that Tablighi Jamaatis, blamed for spurt in Covid-19 cases in various states, were seen misbehaving and spitting at healthcare personnel in various hospitals.
