New Delhi: Amid the soaring prices of vegetables, what is really burning a hole in customer’s pockets is the cost of lemon. In Delhi-NCR, it is being sold at unbelievable price of Rs 300/kg. Owing to skyrocketing prices, if you give up plan to buy half kg or 250 gam and hope to buy 1 piece of lemon even that won’t come cheap. One lemon is costing Rs 10 these days.
The citrus produce, consumed daily by almost all the households has gone beyond the reach of common man.
And, it’s not just the lemons but vegetables prices have overall become over-expensive. Common people in the capital & adjoining areas are finding it difficult to buy green vegetables as their prices have gone beyond the roof.
Not just the households, vegetable vendors are also a worried lot. Their sales have dwindled & profits shrunk because of steep hike in prices. They are forced to sell vegetables at higher prices, thus getting restricted sales in a day and also getting small margin.
A couple of vendors say that tomato prices have also gone up from Rs 25 to Rs 40 per kg.
Market experts believe that the rise in vegetables prices is apparently because of the rise in fuel prices including Petrol, Diesel & CNG. In last 3-4 days,
CNG prices have been increased by Rs 7/kg and is now hovering at around Rs 70/kg, a hike never seen before.
Petrol & Diesel prices have seen sharp hike in last couple of days. As most trucks & lorries run on these fuels, this has also translated into inflating prices of vegetables & lemons.
