In Hyderabad, burqa clad women vandalize Goddess Durga idol; caught by locals & handed to police

When a local spotted the burqa clad women inside the Durga pandal, one of them tried to attack her with some blunt object. Moments later, they were caught and handed over to police.

New Delhi: While the nation celebrates the Navratri festival, two burqa-clad women were detained in Hyderabad today, as they entered into a pandal and vandalized the idol of Goddess Durga.

The incident happened in Khairatabad locality of the city and according to police, the women who damaged the statue of Goddess Durga belonged to the Muslim community.

When a local spotted the burqa clad women inside the Durga pandal, one of them tried to attack her with some blunt object. Moments later, they were caught and handed over to police.

A video also circulated on the social media, in which the duo could be seen in the CCTV camera before they walked into the pandal & vandalized the idol.


The incident triggered protest by Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) outside the police station where the two women were in detention and being investigated about their motive.

Police is yet to conclude anything on women’s intentions but said that they looked mentally unstable in first instance. They are also not disclosing their names & revealing where they came from.

Prior to desecrating the pandal, they also barged into a church and reportedly damaged the statue of Virgin Mary placed there.
