New Delhi: As the military face-off between Indian Army and Chinese troops persists in Eastern Ladakh and is likely to linger on during winters, the jawans are in combat-ready mode to take on any Chinese misadventure.
As the jawans get ready to stay put on the icy heights of Ladakh during winters this year, upgraded living facilities have been erected for the soldiers in Eastern Ladakh.
This is for the first time when jawans will be posted in forward areas of LAC through harsh winters of Ladakh. According to official sources, Indian jawans on the front line will be accommodated in heated tents in Ladakh, where temperature dips to minus 30-40°c.
These “smart camps” are equipped with facilities for electricity, water, heating, health and hygiene.
“Before the onset of snowfall, we have completed establishment of habitat facilities for all troops deployed in Eastern Ladakh. Apart from smart camps with integrated facilities built over the years, additional state of the art habitat with integrated arrangements for electricity, water, heating facilities, health and hygiene have been recently created to accommodate the troops,” a defence official said.

Indian and Chinese troops have been engaged in violent confrontation in Eastern Ladakh since May. Nearly 50,000 additional troops have been pumped into Ladakh to counter Chinese transgressions at multiple locations in the region since early May.
According to experts, Indian military maintain an edge over Chinese in facing hostile weather conditions as it has been guarding Siachen glaciers -the world’s highest battlefield- for several years. Chinese PLA generally remains camped in the plateau.
United States recently sent more than 20,000 extreme winter clothing gears for the Indian army.
