New Delhi: In a significant move, the Indian Army has taken control of several heights on the northern bank of Pangong Tso lake in Eastern Ladakh, thus further consolidating its position in the region.
Indian Army has occupied heights overlooking the Chinese Army positions at Finger 4 along the Pangong lake. These dominating heights oversee the Chinese positions along the lake and thus this will give Indian Army a tactical advantage on both north and south Pangong Tso.
Highly places sources say that the move to occupy these positions was taken to pre-empt any action from Chinese side.
Chinese troops have been stationed at Finger 4 from around April-May but have refused to disengage from there and other friction points in eastern Ladakh sector.
India recently outflanked China by taking control of strategic height near Pangong lake’s southern bank. It also foiled an attempt by the Chinese troops to transgress into Indian side near the southern bank of Pangong Tso near Chushul in Ladakh.
India and China are engaged in tense standoff since April-May over the aggression and transgression by the Chinese Army in multiple areas including Galwan Valley, Hot springs and Kongrung Nala. The situation worsened after 20 Indian soldiers were martyred in violent clashes with Chinese troops in Galwan valley in June.
