Jharkhand: BDO caught drinking on duty, MLA records him on camera; chased him to ‘hangout’ room

When the government officer was confronted by the MLA & his staff, the former reasoned that he was having lemon tea. However, the liquor bottles in his room didn’t leave any room for doubts.

New Delhi: Sunil Prakash, a Block Development Officer (BDO) posted in Manatu block of Palamu district had a harrowing time on Friday, when he was caught red-handed drinking liquor while evading official duty.

And, the person who caught him having a gala time with liquor while on duty, was none other than MLA Shashi Bhushan who chased him down to his hangout area. The BDO was consuming liquor at a time when he was supposed to be present at the proposed government function.

When the government officer was confronted by the MLA & his staff, the former reasoned that he was having lemon tea. However, the liquor bottles in his room didn’t leave any room for reasoning. He was caught red handed and his lies exposed. The MLA’s security men also recorded a video of his inebriated state.

How the BDO was traced & exposed

On Friday, the office of Manatu Block Head was to be inaugurated. Block Head Gita Devi was present while MLA Shashi Bhushan also came to attend the inauguration. However, the government officials including BDO & CO were missing from the spot.

When the MLA enquired about their whereabouts, the staff hesitated. Upon further prodding, the MLA along with his staff reached the house of BDO and saw him consuming liquor. The BDO was supposed to be present at the venue for inauguration of Block Head office but he gave the occasion a miss and rather chose to relish his glass of alcohol.

MLA loses cool, gives BDO a dressing down

After catching the government officer consuming liquor in day time, the legislator lost his cool and gave him a public dressing down. He also warned him not to take the government job for granted and said that officers are selected to serve the people and not to make mockery of government service.

Later, speaking to press, he said that he would seek a strict action from CM Hemant Soren against the officer.
