Jharkhand: Stone pelting during pro-CAA march in Lohardaga; curfew imposed

New Delhi: Violence broke out in Lohardaga town of Jharkhand during a march supporting the Citizenship Amendment Law (CAA) on Thursday.

Stone-pelting allegedly took place when the procession supporting CAA and NRC, being taken by members of Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP), was passing through the Amla Toli. Two-wheelers were also reportedly set on fire during the violence, sparking tensions in the area.

Curfew has been imposed in the area and schools and colleges have been closed for two days. Section 144, which prohibits assembly of more than four people in an area, has been imposed in Lohardaga town.

“Curfew imposed in Lohardaga. Schools-colleges to remain closed for two days. After this, the decision will be taken as per situation. Situation under control. Extra forces deployed,” Lohardaga district collector Akanksha Ranjan said.

The VHP, from its official Twitter handle, has shared a video of a security personnel injured during the violence.

‘Stone pelters are anti-nationals’

Senior BJP leader and MLA CP Singh said that people who do not allow peaceful rally are ‘anti-nationals’.

“People who don’t allow peaceful rally, is to my mind are anti-nationals,” Singh told media while reacting over stone-pelting incident during a rally in Jharkhand’s Lohardaga town taken out by members of Vishva Hindu Parishad.

BJP leader said that state government should get hold of such elements that are creating disharmony and must put them behind the bar.

“A certain set of people with a particular belief system are trying to create discord in the country and they are being supported by Congress, Communist Party and other opposition parties are with them,” he added.
