Johnson & Johnson vaccine given approval for emergency use, Health Minister confirmed

After sanctioning approval to Johnson & Johnson’s single-dose vaccine, now India has five vaccines against Covid-19 for emergency use.

American pharma giant Johnson & Johnson had applied for Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) for its single dose vaccine against Covid-19 in India.

According to the J&J India spokesperson, the multinational corporate had applied for EUA to the Indian Government on August 5.

Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya confirmed the approval from his twitter handle on Saturday. He wrote in his tweet, “”India expands its vaccine basket! Johnson and Johnson’s single-dose COVID 19 vaccine is given approval for Emergency Use in India. Now India has 5 EUA vaccines. This will further boost our nation’s collective fight against COVID 19”.

Earlier, J&J had stated that it is committed to bringing its single dose Covid-19 vaccine to the people of India and fondly anticipate to the ongoing talks with the government.

“Biological E will be an crucial for our global supply chain network, serving to supply our vaccine through the extensive collaborations and partnerships we have with governments, health authorities and organisations such as Gavi and the COVAX Facility”, the company further added.

Meanwhile, vaccine-maker Novavax has also applied for the emergency use of its Covid-19 vaccine in India. The US based biotechnology company Novavax is also a partner to The Serum Institute Of India.
