Joshimath demolition LIVE updates: Malari Inn hotel to be razed, process begins (VIDEO)

Hotel Malari Inn – one of the hotels with big cracks & damaged building base, on Rishikesh-Badrinath highway in Joshimath town will be razed to the ground by the state govt authorities & State disaster response force (SDRF) teams.

New Delhi: A day after protests stalled the demolition of precariously standing hotels in Uttarakhand’s Joshimath, the process to bring down the structure has begun today.

Hotel Malari Inn – one of the hotels with big cracks & damaged building base, on Rishikesh-Badrinath highway in Joshimath town will be razed to the ground by the state govt authorities & State disaster response force (SDRF) teams.

Yesterday, a team of Central Building Research Institute (CBRI) surveyed the structure and gave the go ahead for demolition.

The CBRI team concluded that the hotel was badly affected and was in precarious situation due to the land subsidence.

LIVE UPDATES:

# The SDRF team has taken charge of the hotel and has begun process to demolition the dilapidated hotel building. State administration is providing all essential support in bringing down the structure.

# Lot of protesters assembled at the spot, apparently livid with the government for demolishing their abode for many years. The distraught Mann Inn hotel owner was also inconsolable as he watches his building going down to ashes.

“I feel very miserable today,” he said.

# A large group of women have also assembled at the spot who are in tears over proposed demolition of their houses.

# The police teams are deployed at the spot to facilitate demolition without any hindrance. They were seen persuading protestors to leave the premises so that demolition of structure could begin. Chamoli Supreintendent of Police (SP) himself was present on the spot to oversee the whole exercise.

# Uttarakhand state government has announced a relief package of Rs 45 crore to families in Joshimath, where large cracks appeared in homes and on roads.
