Kanwar Yatra 2021 cancelled in wake of Covid-19 pandemic

New Delhi: In a significant development, the Uttarakhand Government has decided to cancel Kanwar Yatra this year in view of COVID-19 pandemic.

The decision comes hours after PM Modi raised concerns about increasing oversight of Covid-19 appropriate behaviour, especially in hilly regions.

Yesterday, the Indian Medical Association (IMA) also warned of imminent 3rd wave of Covid-19 owing to ignorance of social distancing and Covid protocols.

CM Pushkar Dhami calls off Yatra, after due deliberations

The decision to cancel Kanwar Yatra was taken by new Uttarakhand CM Pushkar Singh Dhami, after holding a detailed interaction with senior officials and experts.

In the high-level meeting, several things were discussed including Covid Delta+ variant and its devastating effect and also possibility of 3rd Covid wave.

After due deliberations, it was decided to call off the Yatra this year.
