Kanwar Yatra: Man carries old parents on shoulder for pilgrimage, wife accompanies [VIDEO]

Locals were amazed to see the sight as Kumar carried his parents on his shoulders, while some police personnel were seen helping him

New Delhi: In modern times, while we often see children carrying on with their old parents, considering them a burden or sometimes even leaving them alone in a miserable state, a rare sight of revered bonding has emerged from Jehanabad.

A modern-day Shravan Kumar is carrying his elderly mother and father in a Kanwar for a pilgrimage tour of Lord Shiva’s city Deoghar in Jharkhand.

Chandan Kumar, a native of the Jehanabad district in Bihar, set off for the sacred journey after taking a holy bath in the Ganges at Sultanganj Ganga Ghat. Kumar’s wife Rani Devi is also accompanying him in the yatra.

Locals were amazed to see the sight as Kumar left for Deoghar carrying his parents on his shoulders, while some police personnel were seen helping him to lift the Kanwar.

Chandan, along with his wife and parents, aims to visit the Baba Baidyanath Dham temple in Jharkhand’s Deoghar district, which happens to be one of the 12 Jyotirlingas in the country. An influx of devotees visit the temple to offer prayers, seeking blessings from the diety.

Watch:

The instance came into light amidst the sacred month of Saawan (Monsoon) in the Hindi calender, which is considered to be the month of Lord Shiva.

The Hindu community offer prayers and consume fasts in the month, along with various other rituals based on the regional lines to please the god of destruction.

Kanwar Yatra is one of the rituals performed across various states, wherein devotees travel on foot to fetch holy water of river Ganga.
