Kejriwal govt gave Rs 62 crore to Waqf Board in 2021-2022, reveals RTI reply

While Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and its national convenor Arvind Kejriwal play out soft Hindutva card in the run up to Gujarat Assembly elections, it has come to light that the Delhi government gave more than Rs 62 crores to the Waqf Board in just one year.

New Delhi: While Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and its national convenor Arvind Kejriwal play out soft Hindutva card in the run up to Gujarat Assembly elections, it has come to light that the Delhi government gave more than Rs 62 crores to the Waqf Board in just one year.

A Right to Information (RTI) query by activist Ajay Bose revealed that Kejriwal government in Delhi has been ‘funding’ the Waqf Board ever since it got elected to power.

From year 2015-2019, the AAP government allotted funds to the tune of Rs 1 crore to 9 crore while for the last financial year 2021-2022, it stood at a whopping Rs 62 crore.

The revelation comes as an ‘exposure of sorts’ as Kejriwal-led party has been trying to position itself in Gujarat as party with strong Hindutva beliefs. At a recent event in the poll-bound state, Arvind Kejriwal called for imprinting photos of Lord Ganesh & Goddess Lakshmi on currency notes (along with Mahatma Gandhi) leading to angry face-off with the BJP.

Following this, BJP launched a tirade against Kejriwal & AAP leaders for its brazen attempt to ‘befool’ the public and trumpet its soft Hindutva.

As per the RTI findings, details of break-up

  • Rs 1,25,00,000 in financial year 2015-16
  • Rs 1,37,00,000 in financial year 2016-17
  • Rs 5,00,00,000 in financial year 2017-18
  • Rs 8,85,69,000 in financial year 2018-19
  • Rs 22,72,50,000 in financial year 2019-20
  • Nil in the financial year 2020-21
  • Rs 62,57,50,000 in the financial year 2021-22

Kejriwal government has often been accused of Appeasement politics. It has been accused of catering to interests of minorities while engaging in mere lip-service for the majority community.
