LAC stand-off: Indian and Chinese troops begin pullback at Pangong Lake (VIDEO)

This process of disengagement of troops come about 9-10 months of military stand-off between the two Asian giants. Some 50,000 troops on either side have been facing each other along the 823-km-long LAC.

New Delhi: Indian and Chinese troops have kicked off the process of disengagement in the Pangong Tso area from the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh.

This process of disengagement of troops come about 9-10 months of military stand-off between the two Asian giants. Some 50,000 troops on either side have been facing each other along the 823-km-long LAC.

While India is yet to make an official statement on the matter, Chinese defence ministry website ran a statement by its spokesperson Colonel Wu Qian today.

“Chinese and Indian frontline troops at the southern and northern bank of the Pangong Tso lake start synchronised and organised disengagement from February 10,” he stated.

Post violent military confrontation in 2020, tension have been running high between two countries.

In last few months, Indian government has been assertive and bold in maintaining diplomatic relations with neighbouring countries. It has time and again categorically stated that any act of aggression by any of the nations will be dealt with firmly.

Last month, Foreign Minister S Jaishankar warned that India’s ties with China were “truly at a crossroads” and that “choices that are made will have profound repercussions, not just for the two nations but for the entire world.”

Recently, Jaishankar acknowledged some progress in the dialogue between two nations but added that they had not influenced the situation on the ground.
