New Delhi: Samajwadi Party MP Shafiqur Rahman Barq on Friday made a weird statement on new women legal age for marriage. He said that ‘Ladkiyan Karengi Awaargi’ as the marriage age has been raised.

On Wednesday (December 15), the Union Cabinet raised the legal age of marriage for women from 18 to 21 years. Earlier, the legal age of marriage for women was 18 and for men was 21 years.

With this decision, now the marriage age limit for both men and women is balanced.

He also said that he will not be supporting the bill in the Parliament citing that India is a poor country where parents wants to marry their daughters at an earlier stage.

The proposal was cleared almost a year after PM Modi announced his decision during his Independence Day speech in 2020.

Prime Minister had said that the decision will be taken in favor of women as health of daughters and sisters are a major concern. This will help amd  save the daughters from malnutrition, so it is very much necessary that they’re married at the right age.
