New Delhi: In a major relief for the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav, his wife & former Bihar CM Rabri Devi, a city court on Wednesday granted bail to the duo and all other 14 accused in the land for jobs scam case.

All the accused were granted bail on a personal bail bond of Rs 50,000 each and also similar amount of surety.

As the news of bail to Lalu & family was announced, his thousands of fans broke into celebration and distributed sweets outside the court premises.

Lalu Yadav, who recently had a kidney transplant last year in Singapore, appeared in Delhi’s Rouse Avenue court in wheelchair while accompanied by wife Rabri Devi & daughter Misa Bharati.

The CBI had filed chargesheet in the land-for-jobs scam case without making arrests and court had issued summons to the accused to appear in person. According to chargesheet, the family colluded with high-ranking officials of Railways and helped facilitate land deals in lieu of government job to aspirants.

What is Land-for-jobs case?

The land-for-job scam case refers to rigged appointment in the Indian Railways. This happened at a time when Lalu Prasad Yadav was helming the Indian Railways.

According to reports, a couple of irregular appointments were made in the Indian Railways violating the laid down rules & guidelines of hiring employees. These job aspirants or those who got jobs in the Railways, sold their land to Lalu’s family at highly-discounted rates.

Notably, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) team carried out raids against the Yadav family at about 24 places from Bihar to Delhi in the alleged money laundering case. Later, the ED team said that at least Rs 1 crore of unaccounted cash was recovered from multiple locations during ED search.
