Legendary actor-turned-politician Naresh Kanodia dies; PM Modi, CM Rupani pay tributes

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday condoled the demise of Mahesh Kanodia and Naresh Kanodia, saying their contribution to the world of culture will never be forgotten.

New Delhi: Actor-turned-politician Naresh Kanodia passed away at UN Mehta Institute of Cardiology and Research Centre on Tuesday morning. He was 77. He was hospitalised with Covid-19 infection on October 20.

Gujarati film superstar died 2 days after his elder brother and legendary Gujarati singer-musician died following prolonged illness at his residence.

Kanodia worked in over 300 Gujarati films and won Dadasaheb Phalke Academy Award in 2012 to mark the centenary of Indian cinema.

In a span of two days, we have lost both Maheshbhai and Nareshbhai Kanodia. Their contributions to the world of culture, especially popularising Gujarati songs, music and theatre will never be forgotten. They also worked hard to serve society and empower the downtrodden, PM Modi tweeted.

Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani paid tribute to Ex-MLA & Gujarati cinema superstar Late Naresh Kanodia.

Recalling the efforts made by Late Naresh Kanodia for the Gujarati film industry, Rupani said that his contribution will always be unforgettable in the Gujarati film world.

Mr. Rupani also conveyed his condolences and prayed for the ultimate peace of the departed soul.
