Lemon becomes gold: thieves abscond with over 100 kg lemon in UP’s Shahjahanpur, Bareilly

In a Shahjahanpur’s Bajariya vegetable market, thieves allegedly absconded with 60 kg of lemons.

New Delhi: The price of lemon has jumped up to Rs 300 in Uttar Pradesh. Owing to the rise in lemon’s price, it has become very tough for sellers to keep their goods safe from thieves. Despite all the efforts, two incidents of theft of lemons were reported in Uttar Pradesh’s Shahjahnpur and Bareilly.

 First theft happened in Shahjahnpur

In a Shahjahanpur’s Bajariya vegetable market, thieves allegedly absconded with 60 kg of lemons. The incident was reported on the night of Sunday. It is said that this shocked many traders in the area.

However, thieves did not only take lemons but also they run away with 40kg of onions and 38kg of garlic from the warehouse.  It is reported that the area comes under the jurisdiction of the Tilhar police station.

So far, there are no reports of the arrest of perpetrators. The police have registered an FIR under section 380 (theft in dwelling house or godown) of the IPC. The SHO, Tilhar police station, said we have launched a search operation to nab the accused.

Second incident reported from Bareilly

In the second incident of theft, the thieves run away with 50kg of lemons. The price of the lemons is said to be worth Rs 10,000.

The incident was reported from the Delapeer vegetable market. The police have said they are trying to find the details from CCTV footage from the nearby shops.

So far, the accused are on the run. In the area, the theft of lemons has become a matter of discussion. Other shopkeepers are also concerned about their own goods.
