Madhya Pradesh: Elderly man thrashed over suspicion of belonging to particular caste; Later found dead

After handing over the body to the family, a video went viral on social media which showed Bhanwarlal being thrashed by a man on suspicion of belonging to a particular religion.

New  Delhi: An elderly man in the Manasa area of Neemuch district in Madhya Pradesh was beaten over the suspicion of belonging to a particular religion. The body of the 65-year-old man was later recovered by the police and pictures were posted on social media which led to his identification.

“We found the body of the victim on Thursday. After his pictures were released on social media, his family members from Ratlam identified him as Bhanwarlal Jain,” said Mansa Police Station House Officer KL Dangi.

His family members reported that Bhanwarlal Jain was differently-abled and had problems related to memory.

After handing over the body to the family, a video went viral on social media which showed Bhanwarlal being thrashed by a man on suspicion of belonging to a particular religion. The video also showed that the accused was demanding Aadhaar card from the victim.

The video shows the man in the red shirt slapping the elderly man continuously and asking, “Is your name Mohammad? Show me your Aadhaar card.”

Reportedly, the accused has been identified as Dinesh Kushwaha. As per the sources in the police department, his wife has served as a corporator of the city.

According to SHO KL Dangi, “A case under section 302 and 304/2 has been registered against the accused and efforts are on to trace and arrest him”.

“Also, the CCTV footage of the area is being accessed and if more people are found to be involved, they will be booked as well,” Dangi said.

Besides, former MP CM Kamal Nath took to Twitter to criticise the state government over the law and order situation and accused the government of being busy organising events.
