Madhya Pradesh: National level hockey player’s hut demolished

Sagu told that the local administration started demolishing her huts where she was residing for over a decade

New Delhi: Sagu Dawar, who lives in Madhya Pradesh’s Mandsaur with her family reported that her hut was demolished by the administration on Monday.

Sagu told that she was residing in the recently demolished hut with her family for over a decade.

She claimed that she asked the local administration for a relaxation of 2-3 days to vacate the place, but no time was given to them and when she tried resisting her shirt was torn.

Sagu Dawar is a national-level hockey player and has played 6 times in the junior tournament. She has been a part of teams from Tamil Naidu, Kerala, Assam, Bhopal, Gwalior, and 2 times from Jharkhand. This dedication shows her immense love for hockey.

Sagu’s father passed away a long ago. In order to take care of her family, she used to wash dishes and clean the floors at other people’s homes besides studying.

Sagu also said “Just because we are poor does not mean we will tolerate injustice, we are not going to leave this place until we get an alternate place where we can reside”.

However, local SDM Bihari Singh denied all the claims and added that this process was going on for the past 6 months. The land which was allotted to them was actually owned by the education department – the local stadium, the land is to be used for sports hostels.

According to some locals, her family was allotted some land by the administration. Replying to this claim Sagu said, “There was no official document. Even if the claims are to be believed, then also the land allotted to us is very far, which makes it difficult to commute and proceed with my hockey career and daily work”.
