Mann ki Baat: PM praises people’s effort to restore Noon river in Jalaun district of UP

Earlier on June 28 last year during his Mann ki Baat session, PM Modi had lauded the Uttar Pradesh Government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for the rejuvenation of river Kalyani in Barabanki district of UP.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his monthly Mann ki Baat session on Sunday praised people’s collective effort to rejuvenate Noon river in Jalaun district of Uttar Pradesh.

He said: “Noon river was on the verge of extinction. The river had virtually turned into a drain causing irrigation crisis in the area. It was then that people made the resolution to restore it. A committee was formed in May this year and thousands of villagers and panchayats voluntarily joined the mission to revitalise the river. As a result, the river stands restored today with “sabka prayas” (collective effort).”

PM added: “Noon river has been rejuvenated in very little time and at little cost with people’s effort. It is a brilliant example of how people’s will can do wonders. When we protect nature, it also protects us.”

Earlier on June 28 last year during his Mann ki Baat session, PM Modi had lauded the Uttar Pradesh Government led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for the rejuvenation of river Kalyani in Barabanki district of UP.

It is worth mentioning here that the Yogi Government has revitalised dozens of rivers since 2018 as part of its vision to protect the environment. In the financial year 2018-19, the Government rejuvenated six rivers including Aril, Mandakini, Karnavati, Varuna, Morva and Gomti rivers, spanning 94.48 kilometres under MGNREGA scheme at the cost of Rs 442.68 lakh.

Similarly, in Financial Year 2019-20, 19 rivers spread over 26 districts and spanning 843.84 kilometres were restored at the cost of Rs 3523.34 lakh. The rivers included, Tedhi, Manorama, Pandu river, Varuna, Sasur Khadedi, Sai, Gomti, Aril, Morwa, Madankani, Tamsa, Nad, Karnavati, Ban, Sot River, Kali Purvi, Darhi, Ishan and Budhi Ganga. As many as 698 ponds and 216 drainage networks were renovated while 33.36 lakh saplings were planted as part of the river restoration project in the year 2019-20.

Furthermore, in the Financial Year- 2020-21, 25 rivers in 36 districts, namely Tedhi, Manorama, Pandu, Varuna, Sasur Khadedi, Sai, Gomti, Aril, Morwa, Madankani, Tamsa, Nad, Karnavati, Ban, Sot, Kali Purvi, Darhi, Ishan, Budhi Ganga, Kunwar, Kayani, Belan, Sirsa, Kivad and Utgan were restored at the cost of Rs 6706.60 lakh. The restoration work was carried out on a total of 1410.81 kms, including 919 ponds, 664 drainage networks while 22.60 lakh saplings were planted. A total of 29.17 lakh man days were also created.

Meanwhile, the UP CM thanked the Prime Minister for his continuous support. ” It is because of his support that the double engine government of UP has been executing public welfare and development schemes so effectively, ” said CM Yogi.
