New Delhi: Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati’s brother Anand Kumar and his wife Vichitra Lata are said to the beneficiaries of an alleged scam in 2010, under which they got more than 250 flats in an apartment at huge discounts.
According to The Indian Express report, the duo Anand Kumar & his wife were allotted 261 flats in a residential complex, developed by real estate firm Logix Infratech Private Ltd via ‘fraudulent & deceptive’ means. This happened in year 2010 when Mayawati was Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and thus raises many questions about the ‘flat scam’ taking place ‘under her watch’.
More than the number of flats allotted to CM’s brother, the undervaluation of property & its sale at huge discounts calls for a deeper probe into alleged fraud & builder-government ‘dealing’. The series of irregularities in allotment of 261 flats to Mayawati’s brother & wife, when she was at the helm, speaks a lot about the gaping holes in the system.
Sequence of events & key findings by the paper:
Logix Infratech Private Ltd is the real estate firm in question. It was incorporated in May 2010, coinciding with the tenure of Mayawati as CM. She was at the helm of affairs since 2007.
Just two months later after company’s formation, it found bulk buyer in form of Mayawati’s brother & wife, who were to given about 2 lakh square feet space in the Noida project – Blossom Greens. The property price was pegged at Rs 46.02 crore and Rs 46.93 crore.
The real estate firm has sold more than 2,500 residential units in the Blossom Greens, from 2010 to 2023 while erecting about 8 residential towers. Another 14 towers are said to be in final stages of construction but not ready for possession. In the 8 towers also, not all the flats have been sold.
In 2016, Anand Kumar & his wife Vichiter Lata were allotted 135 and 126 flats respectively, for which they also paid ‘advance money’
However, the daily found out the duo were billed at much lower prices than the other customers. Mayawati’s brother & wife got the property at about 46% lesser price that their counterparts. The property that Anand & his wife got was billed at Rs 2,300 per square foot while other flat owners were given possession of the same flat in the same fiscal year 2016-17, at a price of Rs 4,350.85 per square foot.
