Meenakshi Lekhi hits out at Chidambaram after latter tears into Govt’s stimulus package

Giving it back to Chidambaram over his criticism of govt’s policies on migrant labour, Lekhi said the flight of labour in Cong-ruled states is because they are indifferent and insensitive to them.

New Delhi: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has hit back at Congress leader Chidambaram after the latter termed Govt’s Rs 20 lakh crore stimulus package as hopelessly inadequate.

BJP MP Meenakshi Lekhi slammed the former Finance Minister, saying that the special package announced by Nirmala Sitharaman lays the foundation for a self-reliant India but Congress can’t see it because they are aghast at the successful money transfer to the beneficiaries via DBT.

“If the Congress leaders can’t comprehend the special economic package, nobody can help. MNREGA allocation was increased by Rs 40,000 crore, many other segments have also got enhanced allocation. Congress is worried because money is being directly transferred to peoples’ bank accounts. Had Congress been in power, there would been many scams in money transfer,” said the BJP MP.

Earlier in the day, Chidambaram termed Govt’s stimulus package as ‘hopelessly inadequate’ and said that the stimulus package has left several sections like the poor, migrants, farmers, labourers, workers, small shopkeepers and middle class ‘high and dry’.

Lekhi slams Congress ruled states

Rebuking Chidambaram over his criticism of govt’s policies on migrant labour, Lekhi said the flight of labour in Cong-ruled states is because they are indifferent and insensitive to their needs.

“BJP will unravel the truth in Congress-ruled states. Migrant labour in those states are not being attended to, not being given food and not even shelter. That’s the reason for their exodus from Congress-ruled states,” Lekhi said.

BJP shows Cong the mirror on MNREGA

“We are not against MNREGA. But, under Congress government, even half of MNREGA money wasn’t used. We showed them how a scheme like MNREGA can run efficiently,” said the BJP MP in sharp rejoinder.
