Meet Prof. Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit, who is appointed as first female Vice-Chancellor of JNU

New Delhi: President of India Ram Nath Kovind in his capacity as the Visitor of the Jawaharlal Nehru University has appointed Prof. Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit as the next Vice-Chancellor of JNU, read the official order.

“She is the first female Vice-Chancellor of JNU. I am handing over the charge to her today and wish her success in her new role,” reads a press note undersigned by outgoing VC M. Jagadesh Kumar.

As per the official order passed by the Ministry of Education, Pandit’s tenure will be of five years.

She is a professor working with the Department of Politics and Public Administration in Savitribai Phule Pune University.

# Pandit is currently the Vice-Chancellor of Savitribai Phule University in Maharashtra. Pandit (59) is also an alumnus of JNU, from where she earned her MPhil as well as Ph.D. in international relations.

# Pandit started her teaching career at Goa University in 1988 and moved to Pune University in 1993. She has been in administrative positions in various educational bodies.

# Pandit has also been a member of the University Grants Commission (UGC), Indian Council of Social Science Research (ICSSR), and nominated by the Visitor to Central Universities. In his career, he has directed 29 research scholars.

Meanwhile, M Jagadesh Kumar had been discharging responsibilities as the acting vice-chancellor after his five-year term as the vice-chancellor of JNU was completed last year.

Kumar has now been appointed as the chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC).
