Modi Surname criminal defamation case: Rahul Gandhi sentenced to two years of imprisonment, later grants bail

Gujarat: Surat District Court has sentenced Congress MP Rahul Gandhi to two years of imprisonment in the criminal defamation case filed against him over his alleged ‘Modi surname’ remark.

However, Rahul Gandhi was later granted bail by the court.

BJP MLA and former Gujarat minister Purnesh Modi had lodged a complaint against Gandhi for his alleged remarks about Modi’s surname at a rally in Karnataka’s Kolar, ahead of the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
