Morbi tragedy: PM Modi visits mishap site, meets those who conducted relief & rescue operation

PM Modi, while paying a visit to the spot near Machchhu river, was accompanied by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday visited the tragedy struck Morbi incident site, where the hanging bridge collapsed on Sunday resulting in death of over 130 people so far.

PM Modi, while paying a visit to the spot near Machchhu river, was accompanied by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel. Rescue operation is still underway in the river where hundreds of people fell after sudden collapse of the suspension bridge.

Prime Minister also met a group of individuals who took part in the relief & rescue operations. When the tragedy struck, they were among the first few who jumped to rescue operation and conducted it all night. Government aid and professional divers later joined the rescue mission.

PM Modi also met a couple of patients at the hospital and took stock of their situation.

According to reports, over 100 people are undergoing treatment at Morbi civil hospital.

Yesterday, PM Modi had chaired a high-level meeting in Gandhinagar to review the situation in Morbi. The Prime Minister was briefed about relief operations undertaken in Morbi after unfortunate mishap hit the city.

PM Modi in MorbiMeanwhile, Gujarat government has formed a 5-member panel to probe the bridge collapse incident. At least 9 people have already been arrested which include officials of Oreva, company that renovated the bridge, ticket sellers and some security men.
