MP: Rs 1 crore ex-gratia announced for 3 police officials killed by poachers, IG transferred

When the police officials reached the forest zone falling under Aaron Police station, they came under heavy fire from poachers. In the firing, the police van driver got grievously injured & reportedly died on the spot while Sub inspector and 1 constable were also killed in the gunfire that broke out with poachers.

New Delhi: In a tragic incident, the three police personnel of Madhya Pradesh were gunned down by armed poachers in Guna district on Friday night. The incident happened when police officials reached the forest after getting a tip-off on presence of poachers in the forests of Aaron in Guna.

Taking cognisance of the incident, the MP government has taken action against the IG Gwalior range Anil Sharma and transferred him from the post.

The state government also announced Rs 1 crore ex-gratia for the kin of 3 policemen killed in the operation.

MP CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan expressed grief over the incident and announced ex-gratia of Rs 1 crore each to the families of police personnel, attacked & killed by armed poachers in Guna district. The Chief Minister also held an emergency meet at his residence to take direct inputs from senior officers about police operation in the forests.

MP Home Narottam Mishra also condemned killing of four police personnel and stated that stern actions will be taken against the culprits.

Briefing about the incident, Guna SP Rajiv Kumar Mishra informed that four police teams were sent to the spot following tip-off about criminals. When the cops spotted them on motorbikes and challenged them, a gun battle broke out. He also informed that dead deers and peacocks were recovered from the spot.

One of the poachers was also killed in the gunfire while 2 poachers have been apprehended by the MP police.
