Mumbai: Canteen worker arrested at IIT Bombay for filming girl in hostel bathroom

A 22-year-old canteen worker was arrested on Sunday for filming a female student when she was in the hostel bathroom of the Indian Institute of Technology. 

New Delhi: A 22-year-old canteen worker was arrested on Sunday for filming a female student when she was in the hostel bathroom of the Indian Institute of Technology. The worker was arrested by the Powai police station after registering an FIR in the case under IPC section 354c (voyeurism). The police are investing in the whole matter and are yet to ascertain the allegations.

Notably, the latest development came a day after a protest by students at Chandigarh University. In Univesity, a girl was arrested for recording objectionable content of other mates and sending it to her boyfriend in Shimla.

The incident came to light after a student raised an alarm after she spotted the man peeping into the bathroom through the window. It is reported that the canteen was closed on Sunday due to pest control work.

A statement released by the institute read, “An attempt to violate the personal space of women residents of the hostel was done by an employee of the canteen by climbing a pipe duct. The accused is now arrested an investigation is underway by the city police.”
