New Delhi: Days ago, video clips of mask-less tourists, bathing and enjoying at Kempty waterfall, in hill station of Mussorie went viral. Hundreds of people were seen holidaying at the hill station but with minimal regard for Covid-19 protocols.

What’s worrying and frightening is clear disregard for Covid protocols. People were seen gathering without masks while throwing social distancing to the wind.

Mussoorie administration steps in

The state administration has stepped in to control the damage due to Covid pandemic. The authorities have now decided to restrict visitors at the falls.

“Now only 50 tourists are allowed at Kempty Falls (waterfall) in Mussorie; can’t stay at the spot beyond half an hour. A check-post to be set up to monitor the tourists,” Iva Ashish Srivastava, Tehri Garhwal District Magistrate, was quoted by ANI.

The overcrowding at Kempty Falls in Uttaranchal is not an isolated incident. Many such images of carelessness by people and equally culpable state administration has raised worries about possible 3rd Covid wave.

Recently, images of people thronging Manali in Himachal went viral. Following this, the Health Ministry also red-flagged against protocol violations and alerted people against revenge travel.
