NCP in a huddle after Sharad Pawar’s resignation, party general secretary Jitendra Awhad quits

“All office bearers of Thane NCP have resigned after Pawar Saheb’s quitting the party chief post,” NCP leader Jitendra Awhad told a news agency.

New Delhi: Sharad Pawar, the veteran Maharashtra politician stepping down as the National President of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), has triggered flurry of objections & resignations by party workers.

Many office-bearers of the NCP are resigning from their party posts to ‘pressurize’ the party supremo to stay as the party chief while workers & supporters are clamouring for his return to the helm of affairs.

The flurry of angry & moving reactions by hordes of Pawar’s supporters over his stepping down, has sent the party leaders into a huddle. Reports suggest that the party supremo is being persuaded to rethink & reconsider his decision.

Meanwhile, NCP MLA Jitendra Awhad resigned from his post as National General Secretary today, in protest against Sharad Pawar’s exit as the party chief. He said that many more office bearers have also resigned with him.

“All office bearers of Thane NCP have resigned after Pawar Saheb’s quitting the party chief post,” NCP leader Jitendra Awhad told a news agency.

Yesterday, at the launch of his autobiography, Sharad Pawar had announced, “I have decided to step down as the president of the NCP”.

The 82-year-old politician told mediapersons that he has decided to halt his political journey after decades long career.

He said that he has 3 years of tenure left in Rajya Sabha and he has decided not to take any additional responsibilities and would focus mostly on issues pertaining before the country.

“I will not take any additional responsibilities… One must not be greedy,” he said.

Pawar, in his over 5 decade political career, has seen many tumultuous times and braved many storms at the state & centre level. He served as Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) & Member of Parliament & also Union Minister.

He was the youngest Chief Minister of the state and was elected at the age of just 38 in 1978.
