New Delhi: There is a twist in what you call the Jamtara loot style, this time it was not about OTP but only missed and blank calls were enough. In a shocking incident, cyber fraudsters stole Rs 50 lakh from a director of a security services company in south Delhi by making several blank and missed calls on his mobile phone. This time he was not asked to share the OTP, it just happened.

According to sources, a few days ago, the victim received missed and blank calls at around 7 pm and 8:45 pm. When he picked up the call nobody spoke from the other side, he did receive some calls and ignore many.

When he checked his phone, he received a message about RTGS (instant fund transfer) transactions worth nearly half a crore.

According to the reports, in the preliminary investigation, it has been found the Jamtara is where this crime is thought to have been carried out.

It is believed that this cybercrime was carried out successfully with the help of SIM swapping, in this technique the fraudster request a new SIM card from their mobile provider where they can successfully get access to the victim’s phone number and intercept any calls or messages.

What is Sim swapping?

Sim swapping is a kind of cyber fraud where the fraudsters get access to the victim’s mobile number. They have to pass the two-factor authentication to get the new sim by pretending to be the original owner.

After activating the SIM, the criminals get overall control of the victim’s mobile number and they use the contacts, calls, and msgs to carry out such crimes.
