New Delhi: A team of National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Sunday arrived at the Jammu Air Force Station (IAF) to investigate the cause of explosion.

Two explosives-laden drones had crashed into the high-security IAF station at Jammu airport in the wee hours of Sunday, leaving 2 personnel injured. The time gap between 2 explosions was mere 6 minutes, with 1st being reported at 1.40 am.

The first blast ripped off the roof of a single-storey building at the technical area of the airport manned by the IAF in Satwari area of Jammu. The second one was on the ground, the officials said.

Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police Dilbag Singh has termed twin blasts at the Indian Air Force station in Jammu airport a terror attack.

He said the police, the IAF, and other agencies are probing the incident.

“Use of drone with payload in both the blasts at Jammu airfield suspected to drop explosive material. Another IED weighing 5-6 kg was recovered by Jammu police.

“This IED was received by a Lashakr operative and was to be planted at some crowded place,” Singh said.

“A major terror attack has been averted with this recovery. The suspect lifted being interrogated. More suspects likely to be picked up in this foiled IED blast attempt.

Suspected terrorist held with explosive in Jammu

Meanwhile, a suspected terrorist was arrested along with some explosive material in Jammu, officials said on Sunday.

The suspect, a resident of Banihal, was arrested from Trikuta Nagar area on the outskirts of the city late Saturday night, they said.

They said security has been beefed up across Jammu province, following the arrest of the suspect with the explosive material.
