No Intention Of Hurting Sentiments: Nupur Sharma issue apology

“If my words have hurt anyone’s religious sentiments, I take my words back. My intention was never to hurt anyone”

New Delhi: After facing suspension from BJP over her remarks on Prophet Mohammed in a recent television debate, Nupur Sharma took to Twitter to issue an apology.

“If my words have hurt anyone’s religious sentiments, I take my words back. My intention was never to hurt anyone”, she wrote in Hindi.

Sharma wrote that she was going on TV debates for the last several days, where her diety lord Shiva was being insulted every day.

“It was being said in front of me that it is not a Shivling but a fountain, many Shivlings are found on every footpath of Delhi, go and worship it. I could not bear the insult of our Mahadev Shiva ji in this way again and again in front of me and I said some things in anger”, she added.

Meanwhile, BJP on Sunday said it respects all religions and does not accept insults to the revered people of any religion, as part of efforts to quell the ruckus caused by Nupur Sharma’s alleged controversial remarks on Prophet Mohammad.

Amid the controversy over her statement, BJP General Secretary Arun Singh issued a statement saying that his party does not accept any such idea which hurts the sentiments of any religion or sect.

Several FIRs have been registered against Nupur Sharma in the matter yet.

On Friday, violence erupted in Kanpur after her remarks on Prophet Muhammad. The police have arrested a total of 29 people involved in the violence.
