Pak drone flies across LoC, drops AK-47s, ammunition: J&K Police

New Delhi: Pakistan is using drones to dump weapons like AK-47s across the Line of Control at night, the Jammu and Kashmir police said today, revealing that assault rifles and a pistol had been found at a village in Akhnoor last night. Security forces recovered a cache of arms and ammunition dropped by a Pakistani drone across the Line of Control (LoC).

Evidence points to the role of terror outfit Jaish-e-Mohammad, which is involved in major terror attacks including the Pulwama strike, the police said. It was the fifth such incident since June 20 when a similar arms-laden drone was shot down by the Border Security Force (BSF) personnel at Rathua in Kathua district’s Hiranagar sector.

Pakistan, which is desperate to fuel terrorism in the UT, has adopted the latest modus operandi of using drones to drop arms, ammunition, drugs and money.

Based on specific inputs that weapons were air-dropped by a Pakistani drone at a village in the dead of night, the Jammu and Kashmir police searched the area. Two AK assault rifles, a pistol, three AK magazines and 90 rounds were seized from Zad Sohal village, the police said.

There were sightings of Pakistan-origin drones near the border in Punjab last year, after which the police alerted the Border Security Force.

Punjab Police also reported on drones dropping AK-47 rifles, grenades and satellite phones in October last year. Officials believed the weapons were meant for terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir.
