New Delhi: A day after US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan ignited fresh war of words between two global superpowers – US & China, Congress leader Manish Tewari came forward to suggest that India should also explore sending a parliamentary delegation led by Speaker Om Birla to the self-governed island, which China describes as its own.
Taking to Twitter, Manish Tewari described the visit of US Speaker as historic and said that India should also take a leaf out of US book and consider sending a delegation to Taiwan.

Pelosi landed in Taiwan and became highest-ranking American official in 25 years to visit the self-ruled island. The visit angered China and it announced conducting military maneuvers in retaliation over Taiwan. Earlier, China made a lot of noise & rhetoric over Pelosi’s visit, however, it didn’t deter US from cancelling the visit.
Hours later, Shashi Tharoor, another veteran Congress leader also spoke in favour of asserting against China, if latter continues with its expansionist designs.
Congress MP, in conversation with a TV channel, said that India should have the ‘Taiwan card’ ready if China misbehaves with India.
“If at all, China misbehaves with us, this is one of the cards we can play to show that we are ready to upgrade our level of contact with Taiwan,” Tharoor told a TV channel.

Earlier, China also warned the US against ‘playing with fire’ and imposed more sanctions on Taipei, after Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan.
It may be noted that Chinese troops have kept the situation at Line of Actual Control (LAC) on boil for a long time now and also refused to backtrack despite repeated persuasions by the Indian Army.
