New Delhi: The Archaeological Survey of India on Wednesday said that they have found ancient caves and temples remains of Buddhist structures and mural inscriptions which mentions the name of cities like Mathura and Kaushambi in old scripts.
The Officials said that these were found during its recent exploration in Madhya Pradesh’s Bandhavgarh.
According to the Officials, the ASI team covered over 170 sq km falling in the area of the famous Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve. This is the first time since 1938, that a month-long exploration of the region undertook place. The area was not accessible to public during this period.

The exercise was conducted from May 20th to June 27. The Officials also said that the ASI’s Jabalpur Circle had also reported that many ancient sculptures, including large monolithic ones of various avatars of Lord Vishnu like ‘Varaha’ and ‘Matsya’, and “board games made in natural caves.”

S K Bajpai, Superintending Archaeologist of the Jabalpur Circle also shared the details of the exploration along with the pictures.
S K Bajpai led the team and also interacted with the media at the ASI headquarters in New Delhi.
Later, Union Culture Minister G Kishan Reddy also shared findings at Bandhavgarh.
