PM Modi to lead Yoga Day celebrations from the hills of Leh, this year

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was about to take part in Yoga Day celebrations in Leh last year only but it got postponed due to Covid-19 pandemic.

New Delhi: Like every year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to lead the nation in the annual celebration of annual International Yoga Divas on June 21.

Prime Minister is likely to join the nation for Yoga Day celebrations from the high-altitude hills of Leh, preparations for which are already underway at brisk pace.

As the Covid-19 pandemic remains a threat to life and businesses, ample precuations have been taken to limit public participation.

PM Modi was about to take part in Yoga Day celebrations in Leh last year only but it got postponed due to Covid-19 pandemic.

Last year, PM Modi had participated in a Yoga Divas event but virtually amid the raging pandemic. Last yea’s theme was ‘Yoga at Home and Yoga with Family’.

Strong message by India to neighbours

A strong message will be sent by Modi when he goes to Leh for the event as it will enhance the legacy of the hill town. The Union government plans to set up a high-altitude yoga research institute and centre in Leh soon and also to develop it a destination for yoga tourism.

In his 2014 address at the United Nations General Assembly, Modi proposed that a day be recognised to celebrate and practice yoga globally.

On December 11, 2014, the United Nations General Assembly declared June 21 as ‘International Day of Yoga’.
