New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent Lakshadweep trip and pictures from the island triggered series of Google searches about the Archipelago and created a strong buzz about the ‘unexplored’ but potential tourism destination of the country.

As Prime Minister’s breathtaking pictures from Lakshadweep caught the imagination of netizens, a debate broke out on social media whether it can replace neighbouring Maldives as tourism hotspot for domestic as well as foreign travelers.

Notably, Lakshadweep is an archipelago, made of cluster of 36 islands and boasts of pure blue & pristine beaches while Maldives is highly popular among tourists for its customized & expensive overwater resorts.

While netizens debate about Lakshadweep’s scenic beauty & pristine beaches would be answer to Maldives beach resorts, the Indian archipelago continues to rank at top of Google searches.

For the second consecutive day, Lakshadweep ranked on top of Google search trends, thereby indicating people’s soaring interest in the island after PM Modi’s scenic pictures.

For the uninitiated, PM Modi underwent snorkeling in the blue oceans of Lakshdweep and also shared pictures of taking a walk on the clean beaches. Sharing pictures from the island, PM Modi hailed the tranquility & freshness that the visitors were filled with during visit here.

After PM Modi shared pictures of sitting in the lap of nature near blue water bodies and also taking a walk, it went viral and prompted others to comment upon it.

Yesterday, Lakshadweep became the ninth most searched word on Google in India. Google Trends registered a sharp uptick in volume collated between Dec 29 – Jan 3 to Dec 29 – Jan 4.

On January 4 alone, about 50,000 people searched about Lakshadweep, reports said.

Among the phrases that were searched included Lakshadweep, Lakshadweep island, Andaman & Nicobar, Lakshadweep flight, Lakshadweep airport & more.
