Priyanka Gandhi stages sit-in protest outside Cong HQ, forcibly removed by police (VIDEO)

New Delhi: A day after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) raids on the Herald House and its sealing of Congress-owned Young Indian office, the party launched a nationwide stir, terming it to be demonstration against price rise, inflation & unemployment.

The national capital saw vociferous protests by the Congress workers with Gandhi siblings leading from the front. Dramatic scenes unfolded outside the Congress HQ as Priyanka Gandhi staged a sit-in and was forcefully removed by the police personnel and shoved into the car.


The situation got heated up as Priyanka refused to co-operate with the cops and resisted detention by sitting on the road. She had to be lifted out from the venue, packed into the car and taken away to police station.

Earlier, she climbed over police barricades to reach the spot where she staged sit-in protest. Rahul Gandhi was also detained before her. Both of them were put in a hall in Kingsway Camp in GTB Nagar.

Congress protest on capital’s streets happened despite prohibitory orders in place. Top Cong MPs including Mallikarjun Kharge, Jairam Ramesh also demonstrated against the Modi government and were detained at Police Lines Kingsway camp in Delhi.

The Congress leaders & workers wore black clothes as a mark of protest.

Rahul leads Congress ‘Black protest’

Earlier, wearing black clothes, Congress MPs staged protest in Parliament Complex and took out a march to Rashtrapati Bhawan. The protesting MPs shouted slogans against govt and demanded that Goods & Services Tax (GST) imposed on essential items be withdrawn.

The protesting MPs, when tried moving to Rashtrapti Bhawan were barred by Delhi Police and were detained at Vijay Chowk.

Rahul Gandhi alleged manhandling and harassment of Congress leaders by the police personnel. They alleged that the cops torn down the clothes of their workers for raising their voice on common people.


In a searing jibe at government, Rahul Gandhi tweeted, ‘democracy is a memory’.
