Puducherry IG Prisons Ravideep Chahar presents Amit Shah, hamper of products made by jail inmates

A video clip was also displayed which had compilations of reforms brought about in Puducherry jail inmates

New Delhi: On the occasion of 150th birth anniversary of Yoga guru and poet Sri Aurobindo, Home Minister Amit Shah was presented with a hamper of products made by jail inmates at an event in Puducherry on Sunday.

The hamper was presented by Puducherry IG (Prisons) Ravideep Singh Chahar, who has implemented wide range of reforms in the prisons by invoking efficient prison management and treating the inmates with a compassionate & humane approach.

Home Minister graced the occasion with his presence in the event, organized in the Union Territory by Sri Aurobindo society on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Sri Aurobindo along with ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’.

Shah also released a coffee table book named Sri Aurobindo and The Indian Constitution during the event.

A video clip was also displayed at the event which had compilations of reforms brought about in Puducherry jails by IG Prisons Ravideep Chahar. It also impressed upon the audience about progressive steps being undertaken in Puducherry prisons regarding regular health check-up, fitness and yoga classes, and coaching sessions on agriculture & self-defence of the jail inmates.

Earlier, Mr Chahar made headlines for his out of box initiatives on UT’s jail reform, including the outreach programme for inmates, which entered in its third phase last month, aiming to train them in selected sports under Indian Oil’s ‘Parivartan– Prison to Pride’ drive.
