New Delhi: Trouble within Punjab Congress refuses to die down. Even before bickering and tug of war within party ends, a party legislator in Pathankot has sparked off a fresh controversy by abusing and hitting a youth in full public view.

A video of the power-drunk Congress MLA has gone viral on social media, leaving netizens angered over his high-handedness and excesses on a youth whose fault was that he questioned the legislator about development work.

Joginder Pal, Congress legislator from Bhoa Assembly seat in Pathankot was addressing a public gathering in his constituency. While the legislator was counting on his achievements and future plans, a youth from the crowd raised questions on the ground situation.

This left the Pathankot MLA infuriated, who first sought to quell his voice. But, the youth again asked, “What work have you done for the constituency?” Hearing this, the legislator rained blows on the person and his securitymen and followers also joined in thrashing the youth.

As the video went viral, people are raising questions over the conduct of elected Congress representatives. Rather than hearing and addressing the grievances of the public, such abuse of power by the legislator himself is totally uncalled for.

The incident comes at a time when the state Congress unit is going through internal turmoil and Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi is already making a tightrope walk on holding the flock together. The Chief Minister is yet to make a statement on the grisly murder of a Dalit youth by Nihang Sikhs near the Singhu border.
