New Delhi: Punjab Police has taken into custody Rabinder Narayan, the MD of PTC News channel over a complaint lodged by one of the contestants of the Miss Punjab beauty pageant. PTC organizes a beauty pageant show every year for identifying & selecting Miss Punjab every year.
One of the contestants had lodged an FIR in connection with the show and alleged that she was harassed by one of the staff of PTC. She claimed that she was forcefully enclosed inside a room and harassed.
The FIR was lodged last year in Mohali. PTC MD was arrested from Gurugram residence today.
The contestant reportedly alleged that human trafficking was happening in the garb of beauty contestant. There is one more accused whom the police is searching for.
Reports suggest that she used to persuade gullible girls in name of Miss Punjabi contest and then forced them into illegal business.
Police is suspecting some bigger fish behind the racket and has launched probe to dig deeper into the controversy.
Meanwhile, the alleged arrest of PTC channel MD has raised hackles of the journalist community as they call it an attack on the press and accused the Mann government of muzzling the voice of the press.
PTC network spokesperson told reporters, “SIT formed to probe this case also already recorded statement of Rabinder Singh.”
The channel also called it a politically motivated move.
