New Delhi: Rahul Gandhi convicted by Surat District Court for his alleged ‘Modi surname’ remark.

Surat District Court found him guilty in the criminal defamation case filed against him over his alleged ‘Modi surname’ remark.

Rahul Gandhi today reached Surat District Court.

In 2019, Rahul Gandhi allegedly said, “how come all the thieves have Modi as the common surname?”

Gandhi made the remarks at a rally in Karnataka’s Kolar in 2019 ahead of the Lok Sabha elections.

Rahul Gandhi is in Gujarat after his Bharat Jodo Yatra. Congress MP was in Gujarat in December 2022 while campaigning for the Assembly elections.

The complaint against Rahul Gandhi was filed by BJP MLA Purnesh Modi who alleged that the Congress leader defamed the entire Modi community by his surname remarks.
