Railway Minister narrates how PM Modi’s idea of roof plazas over stations is working wonders for cities

New Delhi: Amid the challenging global scenario and more gloomy times as forecasted by experts, India remains a bright spot and offers fresh hope. How much of this can be attributed to incumbent Modi government can be a debatable point, but the array of public welfare schemes and assimilation of common citizens in India growth story is certainly a gamechanger step.

From connecting entire population with banking system under Jan Dhan Yojana, to providing LPG cylinders to remote locations under Ujjawala Yojana to providing free foodgrains during Corona period under Antyodaya Yojana, many flagship schemes of Modi government have earned worldwide appreciation & admiration.

Out of these, a couple of government’s flagships schemes are said to be Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s brainchild.

In a video clip shared by Modi Story Twitter handle, the Railway Minister explains that PM Modi’s foresightedness has helped umpteen projects and also in planning & executing many development projects, efficiently & effectively.


Citing an example of roof plazas above train stations, he said that it was PM Modi’s idea to develop ‘urban space‘ at railway stations as this will not only cut congestion at stations but will help provide space for everyone including children, families & travelers.

The rail minister informed that he & his team once made elaborate presentation to Prime Minister on developing 50 railway stations but he wasn’t convinced. Then, he narrated that how PM Modi called him at night and suggested idea of developing roof plazas at railway stations.

He says that Prime Minister told him to think ahead with 50 years of planning.

“As most stations are situated inside cities, there is space constraint. We should develop urban space. Then, he suggested developing roof plazas over rail tracks which should have waiting area, food courts and playing ground for children,” Railway Minister said, recalling list of suggestions by Prime Minister.

The Railway Minister says that Prime Minister’s planning is very detailed, meticulous and always with 50 years of forward planning. On a lighter note, he also shared that PM Modi is a hard taskmaster and it’s not easy to convince him.

“Prime Minister doesn’t like superficial presentation. You will have to be fully prepared & work very hard to meet his satisfaction level,” says Vaishnaw.

Today, many railway stations, especially in metropolitan cities are set for a revamp to make up for urban space and roof plazas. Once complete, they will work wonders for citizens in these cities.
