Rajeshwar Singh, the supercop & BJP nominee who is fighting from Lucknow’s Sarojini Nagar seat

After taking voluntary retirement from service on January 31, Rajeshwar Singh joined the BJP and is now ready to contest his first election from Sarojini Nagar Assembly constituency of Lucknow.

New Delhi: Rajeshwar Singh, the Joint Director in Enforcement Directorate (ED) recently left the premiere investigation agency and opted for a stint with politics. After taking voluntary retirement from service on January 31, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and is now ready to contest his first election from Sarojini Nagar Assembly constituency of Lucknow.

Being an ace investigator, Rajeshwar Singh was at the helm of very high-profile cases during his career. He was the lead investigating officer in cases ranging from Aircel Maxis deal to the AgustaWestland deal to 2G spectrum scam.

The ED supercop hails from Sultanpur district of Uttar Pradesh and is an officer of 1996 batch. His wife Laxmi Singh is also a senior IPS officer in the UP cadre. He comes from an illustrious family of bureaucrats & top police officers in the state. His father was a well-known & decorated officer of state govt.

After the supercop took political plunge, rivals are raking up controversies pertaining to his role as ED officer. Being one of the top encounter specialists, he also faced many human rights violation cases. Interestingly, he also has a doctorate degree in human rights.
Rajeshwar Singh quit the ED with 12 years of service remaining. The 48-year-old was instrumental in bringing to book, powerful & mighty culprits in high-profile cases. He got catapulted to the national limelight after his watertight investigation got former Jharkhand CM Madhu Koda charge-sheeted & convicted.


His investigation in the 2G spectrum scam set up an example of sorts. The 2G scam was linked to Aircel-Maxis scam & INX media bribery case which eventually got linked to Finance Minister P Chidambaram and his son Karti got imprisoned. The upright officer was also at the receiving end for maintaining a zero-tolerance approach and saw more than 50 fake cases lodged against him at that time.

Mining mafias & corrupt businesses in the state also came under his scrutiny. He probed the alleged corruption in Gomti River Front during the SP regime.

Now that Rajeshwar Singh is seeking people’s mandate, he believes that his work should speak for him. The decorated officer’s career has enough to leave imprints on people’s minds to decide whether he is the suitable candidate in the ensuing polls.
