Rupani govt committed to migrants’ safe return, over 9 lakh ferried back home in 633 trains

The data shows that highest number of Shramik trains originated from Gujarat (633 trains), followed by Maharashtra (371) and Punjab (247).

New Delhi: Out of 2,023 Shramik special trains that have run on tracks till May 20 midgnight, 633 trains have originated from Gujarat, in which more than 9 lakh migrants workers have been ferried back home.

At least 633 Shramik trains carrying migrants, who were stranded due to the COVID-19 lockdown, have left for other states from Gujarat, said Ashwani Kumar, secretary to Chief Minister Vijay Rupani.

Gujarat govt also released official data, drawing a comparison with other states on return of migrant labour.

The data shows that highest number of Shramik trains originated from Gujarat, followed by Maharashtra (371) and Punjab (247).

This shows Vijay Rupani government’s exemplary governance and commitment towards all sections of society including the migrants.

The workers were ferried to many states including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan among others.

And, this is not limited to one day. Gujarat govt has been transporting migrants to their home states at much greater frequency and speed than other states. On May 17 also, 476 trains originated from Gujarat while the second nearest state, Maharashtra had just 171 trains originating from its stations.

On Thursday, as many as 64 trains were set to depart from Gujarat with 1.01 lakh migrants on Thursday.
