Setback to Sisodia: Centre’s nod to prosecute Delhi Dy CM enrages AAP, what is snooping case

The CBI, in its recent report, claimed that the AAP government was engaged in political snooping via its Feedback Unit (FBU), which was surreptitiously formed by it, after coming to power in 2015.

New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Wednesday gave its sanction to prosecute Delhi Deputy CM Manish Sisodia under the Prevention of Corruption Act in the Feedback Unit (FBU) snooping case.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had put a request before Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, seeking his nod to charge Deputy CM for alleged snooping. The LG had approved the proposal and sent it to Home Ministry some time ago.

According to the investigative agency, the FBU unit was set up by Kejriwal government in 2015 with an intention to spy on ministers, Opposition parties & influential individuals.

The CBI claims that the FBU was an extra constitutional body with no legislative or judicial oversight and it was managed by close aides of Arvind Kejriwal for ‘espionage’ on individuals & political rivals. The CBI report also claimed that Manish Sisodia was heading this alleged Delhi snooping unit and there were gross anomalies in the unaccounted income garnered by it, in name of Secret Service Fund.

What is Delhi snooping case?

The CBI, in its recent report, claimed that the AAP government was engaged in political snooping via its Feedback Unit (FBU), which was surreptitiously formed by it, after coming to power in 2015.

Being an extra-judicial & extra constitutional agency, the FBU headed by Manish Sisodia operated without impunity & restraint from other departments.

The CBI began preliminary probe in the alleged snooping case after an official from Delhi’s vigilance department complained about irregularities in the FBU.

AAP refutes charges, Sisodia calls it coward move

The fuming AAP has dismissed the snooping charges as ‘politically motivated & completely fake’.

From Manish Sisodia himself to AAP MP Sanjay Singh to Delhi government, all came down heavily on the BJP for the witch hunt against Delhi govt.

Delhi govt in a statement refuted the charges and said that the Centre pressed agencies like CBI, ED & Delhi Police and lodged 163 cases against us.

“Out of 163, 134 cases have already been dismissed by the courts,” it added.

Sisodia termed the sanction as a coward move and said making false cases is a sign of one’s weakness.
