Shameful! Video shows boys catcalling girls en masse outside Daulat Ram College, triggers outrage

Last year during Diwali, several incidents of similar nature were reported in Miranda House. The women-only college had opened its gate for outsiders (students from other colleges) for its Diwali celebration.

New Delhi: Women-only colleges have one prime objective: To provide young female students with a safe environment where they can thrive without patriarchy and sexist misdemeanors lunging at them.

However, a viral video showed the clear distinction between the outside world and a women’s college where students’ safety is held by the mere boundary of the college gates.

The video captured not one, not two but almost 100 men indulging in mass eve-teasing while passing by Daulat Ram College in Delhi.

At first glance, one may mistake the scene for a protest but if you listen closely you can hear the whistles and indecent remarks.

The girls recording the video can be heard saying, “they said give us a kiss or take one.”

The incident captured in the video has triggered outrage on the internet with girls recalling their experience when they were made to feel unsafe in educational spaces by outsider boys.

Last year during Diwali, several incidents of similar nature were reported in Miranda House. The women-only college had opened its gate for outsiders (students from other colleges) for its Diwali celebration. However, things got out of control as men tried to enter the hostel area and indulged in sexual harassment.

Several videos started floating around from Miranda House’s Diwali fest where men were seen shouting sexist slogans and trying to jump over the gates.

Many girls reported being groped and even masturbated on by miscreants.

The flaw in the system is so grave that despite such incidents being captured in good-quality footage, no further action to recognize and punish these hooligans is initiated. The outrage rarely goes beyond the comment section on social media sites and such shameful incidents keep getting repeated each passing year.
